ARIO partner and attorney-at-law Yevhen Hrushovets has been named a member of the Selection Commission responsible for filling vacant leadership positions at the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO). The appointment order was signed by Acting Prosecutor General Anton Kovalskyi on 12 October 2026.

The Council of Prosecutors of Ukraine selected Yevhen from a field of 13 candidates following a competitive process. Candidates were assessed on their professional experience, reputation, integrity, competence and interview performance. The Council then recommended his appointment to the commission.

The vacancy arose after another member’s term ended early in September 2026.

Yevhen has more than 15 years of legal experience, including over a decade specialising in criminal proceedings, particularly cases involving corruption offences.

He has twice served on the Civil Oversight Council at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and chaired the Public Anti-Corruption Council at Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence in 2023. He has also served on panels responsible for selecting NABU detectives and assessing and selecting prosecutors for local and regional prosecution offices and the Office of the Prosecutor General. Following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Yevhen volunteered for combat missions, including the operation to liberate Snake Island.

“Anti-corruption bodies must be free from political and other improper influence. At the same time, independence cannot shield them from accountability for mistakes or abuses. I therefore see no contradiction between supporting the independence of NABU and SAPO and scrutinising their actions where warranted.

“When selecting SAPO’s leadership, what matters most to me is the candidates’ professional track records: how they have acted under pressure, made difficult decisions and responded to misconduct. This commission’s decisions will shape the work of one of Ukraine’s key anti-corruption institutions for years to come,” said Yevhen Hrushovets.

The appointment will fill the vacancy on the commission, enabling it to continue its work on selecting SAPO’s leadership.
